A team of people headed up by Gwen Hardman and Sue Jones have been working very hard behind the scenes to secure funding for further improvements to our village hall.
They were successfully granted monies from Flintshire County Council’s Community Chest Fund for the upgrading of the committee room and the women’s toilets. Smart new blinds have been fitted, and the committee room painted, the women’s toilets are due to be painted, and a new hand dryer is on its way, together with a baby changer.
The team has also been successful with an application to the Aggregate Levy Fund Wales. However, nothing further can happen on this front until a response is received from Lafarge-Tarmac Communities Fund (the match funder), about whether or not the application to them has been successful. The team hopes to hear by the end of August.
This funding will be used for work on the fabric of the building, including new windows, so please keep your fingers, toes and everything else crossed!
2015 is both the WI’s centenary year and Cilcain WI’s 80th anniversary and to mark this, the ladies of Cilcain WI have successfully secured funds to begin work on a digital heritage project of the village covering a century of memories.
The major funder for this project is the Heritage Lottery Fund and this has been match-funded by our local AONB, Clwydian Range and Dee Valley.
A lot of research on the Village Hall has already been started and some interesting and exciting facts have been uncovered about the Hall and also about the village in general.
The WI will be holding an Open Evening and it is hoped that lots of people will be keen to come along and get involved in this very exciting project.
